When we experience something so intense it feels like (or actually is!) a threat to our bodies, our connections to loved ones, or even our lives, it's common to feel a complex universe of emotions. We might feel scared, angry, hypervigilant, worried, sad, hopeless, or helpless. It's also common for trauma survivors to develop negative false beliefs that it was all our fault, we deserved it, or that the whole world and everyone in it is bad. These experiences can feel all-encompassing, but they do not define you. Using trauma-specific therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), as well as the mindfulness-based talk therapy Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Hazelwood can help guide you through the process confronting and feeling your way through the many complex responses you may be having to trauma and into a new place of healing and peace.
General anxiety and other anxiety disorders such as Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and phobias about specific situations, places, or things often stem from particular thoughts we have that feel intrusive, unwanted, and also very true. Through a combination of the mindfulness-based talk therapy Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure and Response Prevention therapy (ERP), Hazelwood can help you learn to notice thoughts without accepting them as true, accept feelings without letting them dictate your choices, and make mindful, meaningful choices and recover your motivation, perspective, and interest in living your best life.
Are you going through a transition that has you questioning your purpose or direction? Wondering what your life is all about? Struggling to connect to your authentic self? Hazelwood can help! Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), together we will explore your values, your goals, and your history to help you connect to what makes your life meaningful to you.
